Our Diabetic Alert Dog Training Program:
Our main objective is to produce reliable, well trained service dogs at an affordable price. The dogs we use for this program are typically rescued or donated dogs. We provide two types of Diabetic Alert Dogs. Our started dogs come fully on and off-lead obedience trained and are scent trained for two odors. Our fully trained dogs are of course completely finished dogs.
We also offer Diabetic Alert Dog Training Videos designed for those who would like to train their own dog. These videos come with our complete support and guidance. You'll see us working with brand new dogs, showing you what to do every step of the way. Have a question? We're just an email or phone call away!
Meet Max and learn more about our Diabetic Alert Dog Training Programs:
Started Diabetic Alert Dogs:
A started diabetic alert dog is fully on and off-lead obedience trained and is scent trained for two odors. The scent training teaches the dog to alert the handler whenever one of the odors is present on the handlers body.
There are several benefits to selecting a started dog. One benefit is a lower cost for the dog. Another benefit is that you are able to participate in both scent work and public access obedience with our guidance. You will acquire some of the skills required to train your next dog, should you need one.
Fully Trained Diabetic Alert Dogs:
A fully trained diabetic alert dog is fully on and off-lead obedience trained and is public access certified by us. These dogs are also fully scent trained using low and high samples which you provide.
These dogs are more expensive than our started dogs due to the additional man hours required for public access training. However, they are the perfect solution for those who don't want to or perhaps cannot train the dog.
Diabetic Alert Dog Training Videos:
Training videos produced for those who would like to train their own dog. We guide you every step of the way and we'll support you thoughout the process.
The first video in this series, Working with Scent, teaches you how to communicate with the dog. You'll use this communication system or training method to teach the dog the alerting behavior. We show you how to collect, store and handle scent samples. Then we'll show you how to introduce scent and chain the alerting behavior to it. Finally, we show you how to work with real-time lows and highs and complete the process.
It's a great training video and you'll see us working a new dog right along with you. Using this course, you can have a dog consistently alerting in less than 3 months. The dog may not be ready for public access but, the dog could be working at home.
Our Application Process:
We do not charge an application fee and have a pretty informal application process. The process can be completed entirely over the phone. You can get the process started by simply calling (757) 354-3261.
